Introduction
Mounting the motherboard is an initial & important step to putting the motherboard into the case to make the core components with the PC case as a whole. The key point is to ensure alignment, steady, grounding, and preventing short-circuits.
Preparation
- Prepare a screwdriver, several bolts(nuts are not usually needed).
- Confirm your case fits your motherboard form factor (ATX / mATX / ITX).
- Ensure standoffs align with motherboard screw holes.
Mounting Steps
- Install standoffs in all corresponding tray holes(optional, depending on the PC case).
- Snap in the I/O shield behind the case rear—clean edges to avoid injury.
- Gently lower the motherboard, aligning CPU I/O, rear connectors, and screw holes.
- Secure screws loosely, then tighten in a criss-cross pattern to distribute pressure.
Compatibility & Tips
- Avoid overtightening—use a manual or low-torque Phillips screwdriver.
- Ensure CPU cooler height clearance post-install.
- Check front-panel pin alignment and access.
Troubleshooting
- Shorts or no power-on: Check standoff placement—rogue standoffs under PCB can kill motherboard.
- Bent I/O shield causing misplacement: Re-seat shield or trim flanges.
